He was my friend, a mentor, the person who showed me a pathway to what I have since called a profession. I got my first taste of filmmaking through him, but I never got to do that which I longed to do - shoot for him.

His films are legendary and yet his name is not a household one like it should be.

He passed away on May 12th, 2013 and was buried on May 17th. I went to his funeral and afterward I had to go somewhere special to remember him in my own way.

There I found his spirit crashing against the rocks much the way he did to get his films made and seen. This is how I will remember him as well as his films.

His name was BILL MILES.
